From what I can tell, this performs comparably to or better than the
HSSF-based solutions. As a bonus, you then have Python on your i,
which can be used for many things. It has a reputation as a
"scripting language", which it is, but it's also flexible and powerful
enough to do practically anything you would do with Java, except that
Python is arguably much easier to code, and iSeries Python in
particular makes it dead-simple to work with both QSYS.LIB objects and
IFS stream files in the same program.
