Oh. My. God.

It must be Friday. You'd better behave Rob!

Hi Rob,

I have added member to file using ADDPFM and it worked.
Thanks a lot.

John

Yes.

A member missing from a file is not normally something an operator is
supposed to guess how to fix. So doing something like ADDPFM and adding a

member with the same name as the file may, or may not, work. Some work
files often have members named after batches. Like a GL transaction file
with batch members from APPOST, ARPOST, SUSIE, etc. I worked with one
software vendor who even had a batch control file to keep track of these.

Often haphazard guesses to patch stuff like this can leave you looking
like Mickey Mouse in the snippet "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Disney's

"Fantasia".

Then there are some who feel that, in general, multiple member files are
the devil's spawn. One possible technique (all risks, as usual, are your
own) is to look back at that DSPFD again. If the "Maximum members" is 1
then it may be possible that it just needs a member named after the file.

I just checked with DSPFD the number of members is Zero.

Does this mean the file has no members in it.

Please suggest.

More likely this means the whole file is missing. In that joblog, if you
press F1 on that message, it should display the reason code. That will
help more. It may also say something like "if the member name is *N
then...".

From a command line you can also try
DSPFD FILE(XX10176485/C050812)
If that fails then it's because of one (or more) of these reasons:
- The library does not exist.
- You do not have access to the library
- The file does not exist
- You do not have access to the file
- You had a typo
If that works, then go to the bottom and it will list the members
contained in the file.

As Rob and others suggested.
I took GO TECHHELP and followed the steps.
Below is the error message I am getting.

File C050812 in Library XX10176485 with member *N not found.
Error message CPF4102 appeared during OPEN for file JJJJABCJ

Does this mean there are NO Members in a File and program is processing
with a members?

Thanks in advance

First, when the job is running look at the joblog. Some simple steps:
GO TECHHELP
1. Display messages for the system operator
position to message
Press F1
F9=Display message details
From job . . . . . . . . . . . : MYJOB
User . . . . . . . . . . . . : MYUSERID
Number . . . . . . . . . . . : 985827
Then, from a command line, do:
DSPJOBLOG JOB(985827/MYUSERID/MYJOB)
You should see the message CPF4102 in full context.
To see it out of context you can do
DSPMSGD CPF4102
File &2 in library &3 with member &4 not found
Basically, you're missing one of these three
- a member within a file
- the whole file itself
- the whole library
How to resolve this will depend on your application developer.
