Don't hope for too much performance improvement. The problem is not on the client, rather the server side of the transaction and they have "more work to do", quoting an unnamed IBMr who was discussing this with me at COMMON in Anaheim recently. Look to a future Technology Refresh for improvements.

Let us know if it's faster, the native IBM i Access Client is very slow (for instance getting a list of tables in a library). Curious if they updated the icons as well, the UI in V7R1 reminds me of a Windows 3.1 program from the 90's!

Subject: Technology preview: IBM i Access Client Solutions

I just remembered to look up the latest from IBM for Client Access:

Announcements
July 2012: Technology preview announcement A technology preview of IBM i Access Client Solutions (5733-XJ1) is available. IBM i Access Client Solutions is the newest member of the IBM i Access family of products. It provides a Java based, platform-independent interface that runs on most operating systems that support Java, including Linux, Mac, and Windows(tm). It consolidates the most commonly used tasks for accessing your IBM i, including 5250 emulation, data transfer, a virtual control panel, 5250 emulation for LAN Console and more, into one simplified location.
