It will save lots of frustration and hair pulling... Not every printer in
the world is supported, mostly
because the mfg put together a cheap piece of c**p with a proprietary
driver. Just because it was
free with the pc doesn't make it good.
If the printer has it's own network card, or can connect to a Jet Direct
print server (avoid the clones)
then I stay away from iSeries Access connections - it just adds another
level of complexity.
Within the listed docs for a mfg, are the commands to create the device
descriptions (ip)
It sounds like what you need are *lan definitions and hpt (host print
transform).
Be careful of non-ibm (or non-midrange-l) sources of info. In all our
subject areas
I've never seen so much blatently false answers to questions as with
printing...
The redbooks for IBM Printing are great source material
As for big line printers - ethernet attach - IBM Infoprint 6500 (and other
models) work well.
