Creating Excel binary files (in part to overcome the limitations of
CSV) comes up from time to time. The most common suggestion among IBM
midrange folks is to use Apache's POI, the popular Java API for
working with Microsoft documents, usually through Scott Klement's RPG
utilities or the wrappers to Scott's stuff from www.easy400.net.
Another alternative is to use iSeries Python and xlwt:
