I always put a creation date into the header notes. While in development, I zero out the program date. After the program is put into production for the first time, any subsequent changes will stick out from the zeros. It's easier to find out when my program was changed with all of the original lines having a zero date.

Best solution for your situation might be to search the source lines for the earliest date.
