In our small shop, it wouldn't really matter who takes it over. We've only
got one other who *might* want to be sys console, and maybe one remote (vpn
connection).

I'm thinking of having a PC in the server room as the LAN console, my laptop
(as needed), my boss and a remote programmer (the latter two for emergencies
only).

Switch to LAN console or HMC. Never used the latter, but the LAN console
was beautiful. We had three PCs configured as possible consoles, and it was
a snap for my boss to take over from me right in the middle of a process
(I'm trying to get away from saying "Job", but that, too).

While *any* PC can be a system console (only one at a time, of course), the
acceptable devices must be configured in SST (it's a security thing).
Probably not a good idea to have just any PC act as a system console,
anyway; you wouldn't want just any user taking it over, would you?

We're on v6r1, with direct-attached Ethernet system console, with a bright
shiny new PC serving as system console.

The boss is in the server room, moving and rearranging things. He's eyeing
the rack, and that PC. I'm figuring that at some point he's going to want
repurpose the PC and swap it for another. That brings up a couple of
questions:

- how do I establish another PC as the system system (direct attach)?

- (better) how can use *any* PC on the network as the system console?

Thanks,
TomH
