Think you meant:

Insert into fileB
Select 'Constant', fileA.* from fileA

which would mean FileB must have one more column than fileA.

If you want to replace the contents of the first column, then you'd
need to explicity specify the column names.

Insert into fileB
Select 'Constant', field2, field3, field4, <...>
from fileA

Hi all,

Having trouble with the syntax of a simple insert.

I want to copy fileA to fileB after fileB has been modified so the first
field is a new field. I want to put the same value into each row of the new
field.

Something like :

Insert into fileB
Select 'Constant', fileB.* from fileB

Can someone put me right?
Thanks
