A default value would not be unique to each row of the table.
For example if I change this DDS
R CLUSTERR
MYALPHA 5A
MYDEC 5P 0
to this:
R CLUSTERR
MYALPHA 5A
MYDEC 5P 0
MYNEWBIE 5P 0 DFT(1)
and run CHGPF I end up with this:
MYALPHA MYDEC MYNEWBIE
A 1 1
B 2 1
C 3 1
NEWBIE is not very unique.
