Yeah, but the "CPA58EE - Line Ethernet failed" doesn't get generated
when "logical" connections are lost (maybe a hardware guru will correct
me). I could go downstairs right now and pull the plug on my Comcast
router and every switch except the one that my i is connected to and I
would never see that message. But if I disconnected the cable or turned
off the switch I'd get the message right away.
When I studied to be a MCSE many years ago, the best advice I got was
"90% of networking problems are physical connection problems" and that
has been borne out in experience. The other issues you seem to be
having might be related to Comcast "fixing" something (I have regretted
their intervention several times).
