This makes complete sense.

Hypothetically suppose it DID pass along that the provided storage was based on SSD. Then the guest OS would know it was SSD and therefore would attempt to use the storage in that manner. While it likely would make some difference in performance the fact that there is now another layer of IBM i between the SSD devices and the guest O/S would partially nullify the performance of the SSDs. It wouldn't be a configuration I would use for anything beyond a benchmark.

Absolutely not. IBM i host does not pass along to any client LPAR
information about the physcial storage.
