I understand that you have backup procedures written in which you do not
want to modify the tape device name. You want to avoid changing code. I
can respect that. It's really no big deal to vary the device off and
rename it. I've been known to go so far as to vary the device off and go
into STRSST and rename the resource to whatever I want also. Hey, if
you've documented how to IPL from a resource to start a restore...

Just to throw some fear factor in here... Our 3576 uses LTO3 tapes. It
CANNOT be configured as a device; only a library. IOW, you can not
reconfigure it from random to sequential like other devices. You might
want to figure that out. We had to drastically rewrite our backup steps
learning a bunch of new commands like SETTAPCGY, ADDTAPCTG, WRKTAPCTG,
etc. Of course, it's much easier if you take that opportunity to plunge
into BRMS.
