Rob,

In case you didn't know, the output from the SAV command is *PRINT, IFS
file, or User Space. DSPPFM and DSPFFD do not help.

Are you familiar with Query? You could always query the file. Try
WRKQRY
and see if that works. If it does then you should be able to view the
output file with that.

A crude dump of the file can be done with DSPPFM against the file. That

stands for DiSPlay Physical File Member.

If you want to find the layout of the file you can always use DSPFFD.
That
stands for DiSPlay File Field Description.

Another way to get the layout of the table is to use iNav's Run Sql
Scripts and this:
SELECT *
FROM syscolumns
WHERE SYSTEM_TABLE_SCHEMA='MYLIB' AND
SYSTEM_TABLE_NAME='MYFILE'
replacing MYLIB and MYFILE with your output file from the SAV command.

However, if you feel you must program against it you can define the file

as externally defined and it will pick up the column names.

Also, you can start System i Navigator. It's free (with the OS). It
will
display the layout of the table. It will also give you a nice view of
the
contents of the table.
