At least up until v6r1 you could always go into the SST, and look at
the logical resources instead of the physical. That way you go down
the tree from each bus, thru the IOP (in pre power6), IOA, backplane
and finally disks...

Without physically looking into the box, how do I tell what controller
card is hooked to what disk?  I tried a few things in SST and iNav but
nothing's clicking this afternoon.

There should be no issue with SSDs on this machine.

You will need the appropriate SAS drawer to put them in and another SAS
RAID card to drive the SSDs with. I do not believe you can add SSDs to
the controller that you have as it is the internal SAS RAID controller
and is already driving 'spinny' drives.

We have a Power 6 550 (8204-E8A) with a 57B7/57B8 storage controller.
It was my understanding that when we purchased this model it was capable
of running SSDs but our BP is now telling me that it is not.  Is this
really that case?

All six slots in the CEC are available for use.
