Also a good point, Scott - this AIX compatibility is almost as much a moving target as is JVM versions.

This reminds me that I should probably take a look at the binaries we are using for some things, to see if they should be brought to newer.

I see your point, but the versions are different, depending on which
information center you ask.

Honestly, I don't think this is an exact science. Some programs from
other AIX releases may work. And some programs from AIX 4.3 might not
work on V5R1. It really depends on what the programs do. I think AIX
4.3 is just the closest match for V5R1.

V5R1 Information Center claims to support AIX 4.3.3.
V5R2& V5R3 Information Centers claim that V5R1 supports 4.2 and 4.3
V5R4+ claims that V5R1 supports 4.3
