If you do need to go back, there is always the MI CIPHER function - even if the Cryptographic stuff 57xx-ACx is not installed, you can still get HMAC and SHA1, as the docs say - look at this url

Scott has an example for doing RC4 encryption/decryption that could probably be modified to suit you requirements.
