Dumb answer: You may be confusing TCP/IP domain names with SMB ("Windows Networking") domains.

The maximum legal SMB domain controller name is 15 characters long, and if you wish compatibility with Windows 2000 and above, you should never have a dot in the name.

If your name is longer than that, or has dots in it, it's probably a TCP/IP domain name. Although "Windows Domain" and "TCP/IP Domain Name" are similar sounding, they are completely different concepts.

domain name will not fit (too long) in the box. Is there a way around
this?
