I have done & recommended this kind of thing myself in the past, but nowadays I just make the default remote directory be something with path naming - / works, /home/vern would do it, too - maybe even /qsys.lib/qgpl.lib

This uses a "trick" - I tend not to trust tricks, but oh, well! The trick is, if the first CD you run is to a path, it changes to NAMEFMT 1.

I must have our FTP server set up with LISTFMT 1, cuz I don't run into trouble with that.

Default remote directory is in the second tab of the setup as you describe.

Yes it does, but not out of the box (zip file). You have to do some special things to coerce it to work with IBM i.

Set up your site in the site manager.
Export the Site Manager file to your desktop in XML
after<Encoding Type> for your host, add:
<PostLoginCommands>
<Command>SITE NAMEFMT 1</Command>
<Command>SITE LISTFMT 1</Command>
</PostLoginCommands>
Save and import the Site Manager file.
Now you can connect to IBM i and the directory lists will work as expected.

I'd second Paul's recommendation on this. Filezilla works.

Use your DOS window to send it via FTP. FileZilla also works nicely.
