The issues surrounding sales tax calculations are exceptionally complicated,
and I do not believe that a simple rate lookup for a location is really
sufficient. I suppose it really depends on exactly who and what is being
taxed; goods or services, retail exempt, fully exempt, specialized
exemptions by purchaser's vocation, what is supposed to happen if shipping
from a "destination state" into an "origin state"?... Complicated doesn't
scratch the surface...

Tell me about it. Years ago I worked for a wholesaler that sold books in
almost every state in the continental U.S. Some states taxed Bibles, some
did not. Some taxed religious books, others did not; then there was the
question of just what is a "religious" book, and it varied from state to
state. Not to mention local options; back then most local rules regarding
taxability matched the state rules. I recently worked on a tax application
that had to be implemented so that a prior employer could sell in the state
of Alabama. It was so convoluted that many of the local people couldn't
tell me what was taxable or at what rate: "Just do the best you can."

It is well this is so terrible! Otherwise we should grow to fond of it.

Subject: i Tax Rate Software

Looking for recommendations for tax rate software that I can use from
an i based system. Can exist on the i (with appropriate updates and
such) or cloud based. Vendors feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks...
