I talked to their VP of Operations, their head technical guy. Here's
what I know so far.

- They are fully PCI compliant.

- You must use Jetpay as the merchant account, that is how they can
offer the software for free. He claims their merchant fees will be
lower (don't they all?). He can give us a rate after he sees some
current bills of ours.

- They do not store any CC# on the i. When a CC# is initially
entered, it is transmitted to them, tokenized (one way), and the token
is sent back. For repeat transactions, only the token is sent to
Jetpay. All that ever displays is the last 4 digits so that if a
customer of ours would have more than 1 CC on file, they can indicate
which one to use.

- The owners of Jetpay and Jetpay i5 are buddies.

- Jetpay is virtual terminal software written initially for the PC and
Unix. Jetpay i5 is the same software written for the i.

- They have over 2000 users, some doing millions per month with Jetpay
i5. I have the name of a reference (who happens to be out this week
and will return Monday).

- Jetpay i5 is menu driven for an end user as well as a set of APIs so
CC processing can be integrated with inhouse software.

That might be the difference. They make money from the transactions,
the other 10k package (not knowing or researching anything on it)
might only have the software and you need to find a processor. The
software looks good, but I would want to use my processor, not theirs.

actually in the internet cc world, transaction fees & monthly fees are the
norm, not the big $$ up front. And if using a payment gateway processor(they
handle the cc tran, not you, but it can look like your screen), stick with a
big one, not the cheapest rate..
btw-this is moving beyond cards into cell phone apps for payments, etc.

As a friend of a few skeptical conspiracy theorists, I have to ask, if the
software is free, how do they make their money?  Charge by the
transaction?  Annual support fee?  Sell each credit card number processed
to the Russian Mafia?

I noticed that.

I did speak to the Jetpay i5 Marketing Director yesterday regarding
references for companies actually using this software.  They have been
reluctant in the past to do this.  His reason is they are all bankers
in a previous life and are secretive with this stuff by nature.  I
don't know what I think of that answer just yet.

In any case, I have 2 names and phone numbers of employees to contact
at Jetpay i5 with any and all questions.  I plan on doing that later
today.  Stay tuned boys and girls.

I would suggest you contact Giovanni Perotti at www.easy400.net
his site lists jetpay as a sponsor - he should be able to point you to
