That is what I was missing, just deleting the hardware profile at the server level. I keep working at the partition level. Yes we have the HMC and it is partitioned, one partition with all the hardware. The load source is in the 5095 tower, not the CEC. The tape was connected to the 5094 tower. The CEC has, ducking, twinax and serial communication cards. I have not removed any hardware but was messing with the load source and alt load source to get it to boot off of the CD in the CEC. PITA. I should have started by wiping the configuration at the server level like you suggested. Well I have the LIC being loaded to the old load source and initializing the system at this time. Now for a trip to my daughters soccer game and (love the HMC) remote in to add and initialize all the other drives after the game.
I think I will do a rinse and repeat using your suggestion just for giggles.
