LTO drives read back 2 generations and write 1 generation back.

LT0-4 can read LTO-2 and LTO-3 and write to LTO-3 media. It cannot read LTO-1 tapes.

No easy way to resolve unless you can borrow/rent an LTO-3 drive and attach to the new system by removing the LTO-4. Make sure the interface is the same. Then you can read the LTO-1 media.
