I have had (am still having, actually) the same problem. Even though
Netserver is running, every time I try to map a drive in Windows Explorer
(or My Computer) it says it couldn't find the drive. I do use the "Connect
using a different user name" since my PC name is not the same as my profile
on the iSeries (V5R1), though I've tried it both ways. I do have a
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with my iSeries' IP address and
name defined:
123.456.78.912 DTO (not the real IP address, of course)
127.0.0.1 localhost
If I run "ping dto" from my PC's command prompt, I get replies.
I have a folder under root named "Jerry" to which both Public and Jerry (my
iSeries profile) have access. Sharing is enabled for the folder/directory.
I try to make the map using \\DTO\Jerry.
I've even tried using \\DTO\Root\Jerry with the same results (though I've
never used "root" on other networks).
I'm not familiar with where the DNS would be located since we do not have a
network server here, just local PCs connected to the 'Net via Comcast.net.
Thanks.

Hi Tom
This is my "is it plugged in" question - is NEW400 a valid domain name
in your network? That is, do you have it defined in your DNS? Otherwise,
it has to be defined in a host table on every PC.

How do I make our new iSeries discoverable on the Windows network so that
I
can key in '\\new400' in Windows Explorer and access the shared folders on
it?
