Hi Folks, no more help needed on this one. I'll use the cmd's you've given me below and the size of the directory and all it's subdirectories is 50G and growing about 7G per day.
Thanks

finally got the return on the find command...so there's a little wait but the
otal did return. I used qp2term and du -m
or the total size and this is what I got;
/QOpenSys/usr/bin/-sh
0.14 ./apprsl/C/hh
0.15 ./apprsl/C
0.45 ./apprsl/tt/jj/0
0.45 ./apprsl/tt/jj
0.46 ./apprsl/tt
37.16 ./apprsl
0.39 ./call_rec/T/E/Z
0.39 ./call_rec/T/E
0.40 ./call_rec/T
0.41 ./call_rec
0.04 ./edocs/hh/qq/W
0.05 ./edocs/hh/qq
0.06 ./edocs/hh
0.07 ./edocs
67.07 . === does that mean 67M or 67G?

i, I issued the following command about 30 mins ago and it's still running. I
ink there's at least 100k files in the hundred or so subdirectories. I'm
essing there's no faster way to get the info?
ind /docs -type f | wc -l

is will give you more than just the number of files. It'll include
ectories, plus it'll have extra lines for headings. (Which will add
your count.)
wouldn't use ls for this.

is will work better... but only includes "type f" (files). If that's
you want, it's good.

find: 001-3026 usage: find [-H | -L | -P] [-Xdx] [-f file] file ...

u've forgotten to specify the directory here. Syntax is:
nd DIRECTORY -type f | wc -l
this finds everything in the current directory (and it's subdirectories):
nd . -type f | wc -l
d this finds everything in the /tmp directory (and it's subdirectories):
nd /tmp -type f | wc -l
du -m
sh: 001-0019 Error found searching for command du. No such path or directory.
ere is no 'du' utility in QShell.
ere's one in PASE, however... If you want to run the PASE one from
ell, try:
OpenSys/usr/bin/du -m
r add /QOpenSys/usr/bin to your PATH. Or use QP2TERM instead of
ell where it'll be in the path by default.)
rsonally, I wouldn't use the -m flag. This causes the outputs to be
megabytes, which will result in all of your small files being
easurable. I'd probably use 'du -k' (kilobytes). But, I guess it
depends on what you're looking for.
