Well,equally
I put a CD from an earlier CUME (one that came straight from IBM) into the
optical drive, and it read it just fine. So we can eliminate that as an
issue. Which means it's a user problem.
So do we care what type of CD is used? Are CD-R, CD-RW, and CD-ROM
usable? Actually, before sending this reply, I searched the 5.1 infocenter
and finally found a manual (Optical Support, SC41-5310-02) that says"CD-ROM
is a read-only format that is optimized for read performance. CD-ROMs areand
ideal for wide-scale distribution of programs and data. The CD-ROM data
format is identical to the one that is used with personal computers. This
makes it possible to develop CD-ROMs for use in both personal computers
the AS/400 [sic] system. You can read CD-ROMs in either a CD-ROM or DVDthey
drive."
So it looks like I just bought the wrong type of CDs last week. Well,
still work on the PCs so they're not a total waste.by

Jim,
I didn't know that there was a cleaning CD.
I just tried a music CD and ran WRKOPTVOL with defaults and WRKOPTVOL
DEV(OPT01) CSI(*NONE). Both returned the "Cannot find object to match
specified name" message. Like I told Charles, though, I used it just two
weeks ago to install OS features, but I guess, like cache batteries, it
could be up one minute and down the next.
I did run the Verify image option in ImnageBurn against the image created
CDBurnerXP, and it checked out.of
When someone that has the combination to the safe comes in, I'll pull one
the OS CDs out and see if it comes up with anything for WRKOPTVOL.-Casey
Thanks.

The WRKOPTVOL should even be able to report the files on a music CD so
if it can't see the files, I suspect you have a bad burn or the device
is corrupted. Try a cleaning CD before you do too much else. Dust
builds up in the dang things and you can get really fun results if there
is dirt in there. You can use any product, but I have always been
successful with Active ISO Burner from LSoft Technologies.

Nope, when you burn an image to CD, you get the folder/file structurefew

would expect to see.
Unless you're not burning the CD's with the right settings, it sounds
like you might have a hardware issue with the CD drive on the IBM.
Can you read other disks?

Tried it and ImageBurn. Same result as outlined below. Maybe I'm
remembering wrong (I got so used to using image catalogues the last

thought that in the past when I burned an image to a CD, such as
C4300510_1.iso that the result on the CD was the same (i.e.,
c434300510_1.iso) not some off the wall file/folder structure.
Am I just being hard to get along with?
