This is the one I need!

Charles, visual explain shows nearly twice the execution time for the 2 CTE version. Also, without CTE is a lot clearer to read as I left of the where clauses in my example which I would have had to duplicate with 2 CTEs.

Michael, thanks, yes I did mean select * from reductions, surprimes.

max(case when reductionFlag = '1' then rate else 0 end) as
maxReduction,
max(case when surprimeFlag = '1' then rate else 0 end) as
maxPremium from mytable
