Hi Don,

In order to accomplish what you have outlined (use Host Print Transform to drive
a printer attached to a PC via USB), you need to install some software on the PC
like IBM i Access so that you can create a printer session on the PC and then
direct it to service the USB printer. In IBM i Access terminology, you are
creating a PC5250 printer session.

Generally the session will be TN5250E protocol based so it will be established
as a virtual session on your IBM host when the client software on the PC
contacts the IBM host to make a connection.

You configure the name to use for the IBM host Printer Device Description and
all the Manufacturer Type and Model information in the software on the PC. It
then presents this information to your IBM host at the time the initial
connection is established. Since it fully supports the use of Host Print
Transform, your overlays and barcodes should still work correctly.

Best Regards,

/Paul

subject: Print to Laserjet - just barcode or also with overlays

I thought I knew how to configure these 'sessions' but a printer just
went bad, and I need to switch to another HP to print barcodes and
overlays on same document.  The failed printer setup also included the
overlays, but the other printer sessions just sit at a "SND" status when
pointing the overlays to them.  The one which was working was a RMT
*OUTQ, and was connected via LPT1 to a networked HP Print server, and
using an IP address in the *OUTQ setup.

My Question: Can you get overlays with an HP connected straight to a PC
with a USB cable?
