I think (not sure) that it is working fine on the Win7 machine but he can't get it to work on the XP Pro SP3 machine. Gary, can you confirm?

Yes. That is correct.

I didn't pay attention to the Win7 to V4R4 part. Wasn't there a thread recently about Win7 access to network shares relating to the default security authentication method? (Might have been a Win Server 2008 thread.) I remember reading something, but I didn't really pay attention because it got resolved and did not affect me. This might help the OP find something in the archives, though. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

You can check the archives and perhaps google IBM's site...

But I don't believe I recall seeing that the Netserver in v4r4 is _NOT_ compatible with Windows 7.

I'm thinking this is an AS/400 problem now.

I ran a program called netscan that shows the network shares. It
doesn't show any shares for 192.168.1.1. Although this doesn't make
much sense since I have a Win7 PC that is shearing a folder in the IFS.

I have a different PC running XP Pro that was using the shared folder
Scans and it can't see the folder either. Net use shows
\\ATU1277\Scans is Unabailable

When I use Ops Nav, Network, Servers, TCP/IP it says:
AS/400 NetServer started.
File Systems, File Shares says:
Scans /SCANS
Access - Read/Write
No maximum number of users

The 400 is running v4r4
I have stopped NetServer and re-started it.
I have re-started the 400.

Does anyone know if "GO NETS" from QUSRTOOL/QATTINFO will compile in v4r4?

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

Gary

I'd check to make sure that there isn't another share from this client to the AS/400 under a different username by running...

net use

Here is the output from mine...

U:\>net use
New connections will be remembered.

Status Local Remote Network

-------------------------------------------------------------------
------------ Disconnected I: \\as09\download
Microsoft Windows Network Unavailable R:
\\host.qlf.com\techstaff Microsoft Windows Network OK T:
\\dc06\it Microsoft Windows Network OK U:
\\dc06\user\jsteil Microsoft Windows Network Disconnected Z:
\\192.168.1.40\ConnectedPicklistSvc
Microsoft Windows
Network Disconnected \\bs10\harrisdata Microsoft
Windows Network The command completed successfully.

The output from mine is:

Net use
New connections will be remembered.

There are no entries in the list.

Then I'd make sure there isn't a remembered password to this server by running:

rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr

From there you can clear out the remembered passwords.

The stored user names and passwords window came up with nothing in it.

I don't know that this will necessarily solve your problem, but it has helped me in the past when dealing with similar situations.

Anything might help at this point. All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Gary

net use L: \\ATU1277\scans MyPassword /user:SCANS

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

net view \\192.168.1.1
System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

I'm trying to setup network shares on an XP Pro sp2 machine. I had
sp3 installed and removed it because an IBM program wouldn't run in sp3.

I'm trying to share a folder called scans on an AS/400. The AS/400
netshares is configured to share the folder with unlimited users.
The user allowed to share the folder on the AS/400 is called scans. The user scans is created in XP Pro.

Both computers have the same user name called scans and the same password.

The user scans on the AS/400 is enabled.

Both computers are set with a workgroup called Workgroup.

In XP Pro the:

computer browser has been restarted.

Net Logon is not started and set to manual.

If I go into Windows Explorer, My Network Places, Entire Network,
Microsoft Windows Network, Workgroup, ATU1277

It asks me for a user name and a password.

If I put in user name:scans password:MyPassword

The username/password screen comes right back. Over and Over again

The firewall on the XP machine has TCP ports 137, 138, 139, 445 open.

The firewall on the XP machine has 192.168.1.1 Trusted. This is
the machine called ATU1277.

I have "simple file sharing" un-checked.

I have also tried net use L: \\192.168.1.1\SCANS
/user:192.168.1.1\administrator

with the administrator password for the XP machine.

I have tried turning File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks off, Ok, On, Ok.

Does anyone have any ideas what I might try next?

Thanks,

Gary Kuznitz
