Does anyone see a reason not to increase password size from 8 to 10
characters?
Way back when people were using SNADS we changed our password maximum
length from 10 to 8. I think it was because of some SNADS requirement.
Perhaps we wanted passwords to be no longer than the 8 characters allowed
in ADDDIRE for the user name, I can't remember.
I know that the old QY2FTML File Transfer Subroutine migrated over from
the S/36 was limited to an 8 character password. (Yes, I know that
passwords on the S/36 were limited to 4 characters. I said migrated, not
unmodified.) All IBM documentation on that now is limited to "You may
want to secure this program from users". It may have been in "AS/400
Communications: User's Guide" SC21-9601.
I still have it as a PDM option but I can't recall the last time I used
it.
My program:
Last used date . . . . . . . . . . . : 01/14/09
IBM's QY2FTML:
Change date/time . . . . . . . . . . : 06/12/10 12:46:35
Usage data collected . . . . . . . . : YES
Last used date . . . . . . . . . . . :
Probably when we installed V7R1. The copy on another lpar matches the
date we installed V7 on it.
System level . . . . . . . . . . . . : V7R1M0
Creation date/time . . . . . . . . . : 10/05/09 04:28:1
STRPASTHR RMTPWD(...) supports 10 characters.
