I apologize as well. After a second read I realize my response was also a bit terse and was not my intention to come across as rude.

I was not aware the externally described print files were handled differently. You learn something new every day. I believe when I have done this in the past it was with a custom generated print file and not a system generated one and the definitions were, more than likely, different.

I look forward to learning much more from the midrange list!

Ok first I would like to apologies for the short answer. Yes you can
override internally defined RPG output to a print file or DB file. Some
say you can override and Externally Defined Printer File used within an
RPG program to a DB file. That I do not believe to be true but would
like to learn how to. Can someone educate me on that?

As for not giving an example or an alternative, I apologies but when I
saw that you were trying something that I thought impossible, I want to
point that out so you can rethink what you are trying to do and move
past the error at hand. I see that the solution was posted already so I
will end my apology here.
