That sounds like key-mapping: it's probably being mapped into "Field Minus" (see your 5250 data stream manual).

Does it act, with the exception of the above-noted behavior, otherwise act like a "Field Exit"? Does it erase everything from the cursor position through the end of the field? If so, that confirms it.
