The same adapter, in this case I am assuming Fibre, will service IBM i, AIX , VIOS, and Linux, but not at the same time. You have several options for hosting; for instance if the AIX instance is smaller than the IBM i instance you could host the AIX instance entirely inside IBM i. Same for Linux. You can also virtualize the entire environment with PowerVM (VIOS). In that case the adapters do not have to be dedicated to the IBM i or AIX instance, but to VIOS and then are shared. Depending on what types of SAN storage you use, and if there are multiple types that you would like to combine, then IBMs SVC (Storage Virtual Controller) comes into the picture.

At the risk of sounding a bit forward, you need an architect with experience in these areas, one who is certified by IBM at the latest levels to help you make the correct choices. If your Business Partner does not have a certified architectural level person working with you to get the design correct, then you might consider paying one to give you unbiased advise.
