David,

You need to enclose your select statement with parenthesis'
I'd also use Coalesce to convert a NULL-Value (no record found) into *Zeros.

EXEC SQL SET :NSQNO = (SELECT Coalesce(MAX(NSQNO), 0) + 1
FROM NPAI WHERE NENVCD = : wEnvCd AND NDOSNO = :
wNoRf);

Dennis,

SET is the SQL equivalent for the RPG Eval.
For example if you only want to exploit an SQL function, but not use a dummy
access to a file, SET (or Values) can be used.

EXEC SQL Set :CurrWeek = Week_ISO(Current_Date);

SET applies to UPDATE. Is this an UPDATE statement? Or do you want VALUES
... INTO?

Hi,

What's wrong with my statement?

EXEC SQL
SET : NSQNO = SELECT MAX(NSQNO) + 1
FROM NPAI WHERE NENVCD = : wEnvCd AND NDOSNO = : wNoRf;

Here's an extract from the compile listing :

.+... 2 ...+... 3 ...+... 4 ...+... 5 ...+... 6 ...+.
SET : NSQNO = SELECT MAX(NSQNO) + 1

MESSAGES DE DIAGNOSTIC
TEXTE
Position 38 Elément syntaxique MAX n'est pas correct.

Thanks.
