I was wrong about the SYSFUNCS record being absent. The system DID add it when I restored the service program. Magic!

And yes, you were also right about *SYS vs. *SQL naming and qualified vs. unqualified functions. I could get it to work by either specifying *SYS naming with unqualified function (the service program is in a library that is in the system part of the library list) or specifying *SQL and qualifying the function (now I know how to do it). Many thanks! 8-)
