I have to debug quite a bit of iSeries print data so I keep TCP/IP Print service(AKA Print services for UNIX) running on my Windows box. I've a shared printer called FILE using port FILE.
On the iSeries side, I've a few different remote outqs.

IP address of my pc
Remote printer queue is 'FILE'

for *AFPDS
Connection type . . . . . . . . *IP
Destination type . . . . . . . . *PSF2
Host print transform . . . . . . *NO

For *SCS where I just want a completely flat ASCII version
Destination type . . . . . . . . *OTHER
Host print transform . . . . . . *YES
Manufacturer type and model . . *WSCST
Workstation customizing object MINIMAL - This only has only a few lines for carriage return, line feed, form feed.

for a previously composed *USRASCII( PCL )
Connection type . . . . . . . . *IP
Destination type . . . . . . . . *OTHER
Host print transform . . . . . . *NO

For a Manufacturer type and model or a WSCST, simply specify it.
Destination type . . . . . . . . *OTHER
Host print transform . . . . . . *YES
Manufacturer type and model . . *HP5SI
OR
Manufacturer type and model . . *WSCST
Workstation customizing object NEWWSCST

This works for almost every type of spool file except *AFPDSLINE and *LINE, but those are fairly rare.

Yes I do get a pop-up window and have to tell windows where to write the file, but then I get it immediately without have to have anything special running on the Window side. This is also quite handy for debugging many of the Windows based printing mysteries.

Subject: View spooled file with overprinting?

Is it possible to view a spooled file in its entireity without showing
overprinting?

We have some PCL generated spooled files for which I need to examine the
PCL, but overprinting suppresses a lot of the data. I tried viewing the
spooled file in 5250, exporting it to a text file in iNav, and copying to a
physical file (CPYSPLF). None allowed me to view all the spooled file data;
they suppressed or lost overprinted records.

Did I overlook an option? The system is V5R4, with iNav 6.1.

Thanks,
Loyd
