Jerry,

I have done quite a few of them, and each one has gone great, but
there are a few items to know:

1) As you stated when crossing the 6.1 boundary, you need to insure all
programs pass ANZOBJCVN.
2) You need to get the cross reference database PTFs on V5R4 before you
upgrade to 7.1
3) Make sure you have the latest i_BASE_01 CD
4) Check if you are running Websphere 6.0 that you upgrade to 6.1 or 7.0
before upgrading your os. If you are running domino/notes, you have a
version that will work with 7.1. Also, if you are using JAVA, that the SDK
that you are using is supported on 7.1
5) That your machine will support 7.1 (i.e., if you are on an 810, don't
upgrade to 7.1, stop at 6.1.1).
6) If using Operations Console Direct, that you CHANGE that to Operations
Lan Console BEFORE you start your upgrade.

Pete

Subject: Upgrading to 7.1

We are currently on V5R4, and I am contemplating ordering the 7.1 upgrade
next month for possible installation next year. I know a release (6.1 in
this case) can be skipped, and that I need to read both releases "Memo to
Users". I have already run the ANZOBJCVN command, and everything looks
kosher. I have downloaded the "Installing, updating or deleting IBM i"
manual (SC41-5120-11) manual.

Just wondered if:

a) There were any other preliminary documents, manuals, or such that I
forgot before I started planning the upgrade, and

b) Anyone out there had the 7.1 install skipping 6.1 and had any
experiences from which I could learn?

Thanks.
