If you do DSPPTF, on the first product (licensed internal code) is the
Release V5R4M0 or V5R4M5?
Wait, that doesn't matter for a 525, just certain other 5xx boxes:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/osmapping.html
but if you had the time and inclination I would recommend being on 545
instead of 540. This would involve:
- Ordering respin 545-F, see
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/resave/v5r4.html
- Order the latest cume, and all groups for 54 from fix central
- Follow the instructions for "Replacing Licensed Internal Code and i5/OS
of the same version and release" at

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/topic/rzahc/rzahc1.htm
- Install the latest cume and all groups

For some light reading try perusing ptf cover letters for V5R4 and 525 at

Only one I saw was an upgrade to ANZOBJCVN to support that model.

Speaking of ANZOBJCVN, why aren't you going to 6.1.1 or 7.1; ANZOBJCVN
issues?

Either way, you'll also need license keys for the 525; IBM and otherwise.

Don't know how IBM support works in a case like this, upgrading from an
810 is no longer supported
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/hwlifecycle.html
Without this support, can you get license keys without having to start
over? I tend not to get so far behind.

Moving to 545 will allow you to upgrade to more models than 540 will, in
case you decide again to move to a model that's no longer marketed.

Here's some news, IBM's already committed to supporting V5R4 longer after
end of marketing than they supported V3R2 after it's end of marketing.
Pretty amazing, huh? V3R2's end of support died just 3 months after end
of marketing. V5R4's end of marketing is 1/07/2011 and IBM will provide
support for no less than 12 months from today. V3R2 was marketed for less
than 4 years and V5R4 was marketed for 5 years. Keep in mind that V3R2
was the last release to support a plethora of CISC boxes. And jumping
from CISC to RISC was a lot more work than jumping from Power 5 to power 6
and 7.
If IBM announced end of support for V5R4 for next year does your budget
for next year handle that? Shouldn't it?
