Besides FSIOP (fizzy-op) and IXS, one early iteration was called the IPCS.

IXA was an adapter to let an outboard xSeries server use midrange disk and
to let the midrange have some management control over the xSeries. The IXA,
though, went in the xSeries and added HSL connectivity to the xSeries. The
xSeries then joined the iSeries' HSL architecture.

FSIOP = File Server Input/Output Processor
IXS = Integrated xSeries Server
IPCS = Integrated PC Server
IXA = Integrated xSeries Adapter.

Performance started out as, IIRC, a 486 or Pentium CPU. The final iteration
of the IXS used a 2GHz Pentium M. Personally I thought they were great for
some tasks. Zero added footprint, zero added hardware maintenance, use the
midrange tape, disk, and optical. As long as the PC workload was light to
moderate they worked great. But managing the heat was problematic and
engineering the card for such a small sales base was probably difficult to
do profitably.

True statement. I have one client who still runs such a machine.

Subject: Windows on ibm power

All,
I was having a conversation with someone yesterday and they mentioned that

they remember that you could run windows on the same box as an ibm i. Now,

I immediately was suspicious of this statement but they claimed that about

10 years ago there was a special processing card that you would put in the

machine that would be used to run the OS. Can anybody clear this up? Is
it possible to run IBM i and Windows on the same hardware platform? Even
considering virtualization options is this possible?

Thanks
