I usually make sure I can ping the host, then, assuming I have an
account on the host domain that exactly matches my user name and
password on the i, I do something like this:
qsh
$ cd /QNTC
$ mkdir SFTORSOS
$ cd SFTORSOS/perse
$ ls
<get a cup of coffee, drink it & read about last night's game. After a
while a directory listing appears>
$
