If they had progressed and done AS/500, AS/600, AS/650, and so on, THAT
would have worked and would have established a brand. Problem is, IBM
refuses to establish a brand PERIOD. Microsoft changes the name of Windows
every release, but "Windows" has always stuck and they just shove a
different number or suffix on the end. IBM keeps changing ANY branding it
establishes, ensuring that there is no brand. SOMETHING in the name needs
to be static.
Now if IBM had stuck with AS/400 and OS/400 . . . .
