ODBC isn't a database - it's an access. If that database had 30 to 40
million records and you wanted to query that no one wants to view all of
those - they want a summary. So whatever you used to access it (ODBC,
JDBC, etc) should call a stored procedure on the server and process the
result sets. Although it does sound like this person does allow ad hoc.
Perhaps they aren't dealing with quite so large a dataset.
