Kelley,

I agree with Raul and the other suggestions about adding Java, SQL, etc., to the current mix. Sometimes people may not "want" something because they don't even know that it exists. No one here *asked* for a subfile, but were delighted when I wrote their first one; now they expect 'em. I've walked in on users who were entering spreadsheet cells from a printed report; "Huh, excuse me but...".

The future is a moving target. What is de rigueur today is antiquated tomorrow. But basic business skills are forever. I do, though, understand the point about what interviewers want to see/hear; during my interview they never asked me if I had any business courses or if I could design relational tables. (Frankly, I don't know why they picked me out of 30+ candidates; I can only guess that they must have been really bad or I'm a really good BSer.)

But my concern is that, as soon as something becomes "hot" everybody aims for it and the market gets glutted (HTML "programmers" are a dime-a-dozen). I know that doesn't help much, if at all. Just don't be swayed by current hype; rather, find out what companies are really looking for in your area (or nationally if you're up to re-locating).
