Kirk, had blade server in at the beginning of the year to test with for 30
days. Very nice, one drawback at the time was modem support. There were at
that time no support for modems. There seemed to be quite a bit more
complexity and codebase requirements to suppoir the blade. I am currently
running several E4A servers with virtualized I partitions and LINUX
partitions. These setups and in using the HMC seem to work very good. I
would probably want to talk to an IBM BP etc. to look at workload
comparisons etc. I am not sure if blade is for everyone, but then again it
might be.

Trying to decide on a new Power7 if I 'want' to run VIOS as the primary and

Guest my other IBM i partitions that way. I'm sure somebody out there is
running VIOS on a non-blade PowerSystem. How much complexity does running
VIOS add? I know if I want to Guest Linux and AIX, it's probably the better
way to go, but we aren't there yet. When VIOS and V6 came out there wasn't
full native tape support, has that been solved?

Thoughts?

Thanks
