tar exists as part of QShell, I found. And there is something called pax there, as well. Someone else knows better about those. You can execute those from a command line very easily.

As for working with PKZIPped files - jar will do that just fine.

To run these from a command line, you do something like

qsh cmd('tar -xxxx somefile...')

I don't know all the options and syntax - there is a QShell Utilities manual you can get at InfoCenter.
