subject: RE: Backup HMC Data - question about size

You shouldn't run SAVE Upgrade data unless you are going to upgrade your
machine soon. The reason is that the next time your HMC is rebooted, at
the
end of the boot it will copy this data back from the special save area
(File
system) to your HMC. So to give you an example. Let's say today you do a
SAVE Upgrade Data and don't IPL your HMC. Then about a week or so later,
you make major changes to your profiles, you add and remove a bunch of
users, and change your networking settings. Then about 2 weeks later, you
IPL the HMC, and suddenly all your settings are back to what they were
today. That would drive you crazy.

Save HMC Data (formerly Critical Console Data) is like a Save Change
Object
of all the software since the last time you did an installation from a set
of Recovery DVDs. The size is probably about right.
