Rob,

You are correct, and no we don't use SSL for non-Admin 5250 sessions here.

I'm out of my comfort zone here, but is your 5250 SSL secured?  If not,
then anyone using a sniffer can see your passwords.  We don't and I just
ran a simple comm trace.  See the following from a signon of a 5250
session:

I changed the text of my password shown to something else.

What I am getting to is that I thought that SSL to mgtc would also mean
that your 5250 was SSL and shouldn't one work for the other?  Disclaimer:
I've already said I am out of my comfort zone.

Sent by:        midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Is anybody aware of any documentation, either from IBM or from an
authoritative source such as Pat Botz or Carol Woodbury, discussing
security implications of iSeries Management Central?

Here's the deal, I used to be able to access the iNav System monitors,
but recently our admins have configured Management Central to only use
SSL.  Since I don't have SSL configured, I can't access MC which means
I can't use the system monitors.

I can't get help to configure the SSL connection to the MC system (our
development box BTW) since management central is an "admin" tool.

There's plenty of stuff in MC that I couldn't make use of before,
which is fine.  But I'm looking for evidence to support the idea that
being able to use an SSL connection to the MC system and thus being
able to at least connect to MC is not a concern (or if it is a concern
specifics on why)

Thanks!
Charles Wilt
