Did you turn on the hex dump mode at the printer?

What hex characters is it receiving?

Aaron I think that char you want is ¬

ASCII is x'AC'

EBCDIC is x'5F' I believe assuming US-English.

So you spool file should have:
¬XA
¬LH30,30
¬FO20,10¬AD¬FDZEBRA¬FS
¬FO20,60¬B3¬FDAAA001¬FS
¬XZ
