Interesting approach ... but a bit stupid.

I stole... um, er... borrowed.. that bit of code from an example on
the web a long time ago, and have used it several times since without
difficulty, but I see what you mean - I noticed that yesterday when
checking to see if I was filling the parms properly and it didn't
quite make sense to me either. Odd indeed.

Note that in some cases your very unsafe technique will appear to work
so you may have lots of "working" code that uses this technique. If so
I suggest you find and fix it.

The fix, and the correct code, is to use a separate field for the
amount of space you make available to the API.
