I have been running V7R1 since the start of the Beta, and it is extremely
stable.

I have a few customers that have already been upgraded to V7R1 (All were at
V6R1), and I have currently 14 scheduled V7R1 upgrades to do in the next two
months. We are moving all customers now onto V7R1, of course we always
check with the third party vendors to insure compatibility.

I have done a few upgrades from V5R4 to V7R1 here in the office, and
everything was real smooth. There are some PTFs for database Cross reference
and Virtual Media that you need coming from both V5R4 & V6R1.

I am doing a COMMON webcast on upgrading to V7R1 on Tuesday June 22 at noon
CDT, go to www.COMMON.org to register for it.

call me crazy but...they call it the bleeding edge for a reason. i would
opt for v6.1 until v7.1 has been out for at least a year or so. but
that's JMO. v6.1 is very stable and i love the "new" bells and whistles
for RPG as well as some of the new additions to sys admin stuff. most
likely it will be at least a year before i can make the jump anyway since
our software (Caterpillar 1960's COBOL) has been certified for v7.1. Since
Cat no longer maintains or distributes the software i'm hoping our new
"support" group gets the cert out faster though. only time will tell....

Thanks,
Tommy Holden

I've been pondering an upgrade from v5r4 myself.
Does it make sense to go to 6.1 at this point, or should I go straight
to 7.1?

In my case, I'm not changing hardware at all, just updating the OS. I
know I'll have to run ANZOBJCVN and all that good stuff -- no question
about that.

What I want to know is whether skipping to 7.1 is a good idea right now,
or should I be more conservative and go to 6.1?

I have a customer that I have scheduled for some maintenance. They are
moving from 35GB to 70GB drives and I'd like to move them to a more
current OS release. The question is: Should I skip 6.1 at this point

have a model 520, processor feature 7355. They have a 573D-001 storage
controller.

The plan is to do a Save 21 (twice). Remove and label the 35GB drives
(so they can be re-installed in the correct order if disaster strikes),
restore the Save 21 and then upgrade them to either 6.1 or 7.1.

What else do I need to add to the mix?

Thanks,

Pete
