Chris,

We did it a little differently, but, our HMC is was plugged into a
network hub on the same subnet as our new 8203 as well as our old 9406.
We powered on the 8203. On the HMC I select Systems Management,
Servers, then in the right panel under connections, I selected Add
Managed Systems. A pop-up window appears. I selected Find Managed
Systems, entered an IP address range and waited. It found the system
and then the real fun began. HTH

Dan...

I have a HMC with 4 ports running V7.3.0 I have it connected
to one new iSeries, 8203-E4A, a power 6 box. It is connected
using Eth2 @ 192.168.128.1 providing DHCP and a direct
connect Ethernet cable.

I also had Eth3 cabled to an older 9406-520, a power 5 box
but to the HMC2 port. (The HMC1 port is attached to a switch
with the default IP address of 192.168.2.147.)

I cannot shut down this older production box easily,
especially remove power to have it pick up an IP address as
it is 2000 miles away. I was trying to put the Eth3 adapter
on the HMC into the 192.168.3.147 subnet but it does not
offer that when you select private and DHCP. If I select
open, I can enter the hardcoded IP address.

Now since this is cabled direct, what is the proper way to
get the HMC and 520 talking? I have access to ASM via the
HMC1 port. Is it possible to set the HMC 2 port to pull the
IP address from the HMC Eth3 if I configure that for DHCP?
Again I cannot remove power from the 520 server to reset the
FSP so I need to do this live without crashing the server too.
